Help Build Our First Indigenous-Owned Cabin in Northern Saskatchewan

A place to stay, connect with the land, and experience the North.

Fundraising goal: $125,000 CAD

My name is Brett Ericson. I’m a Status First Nations person, a builder, and an entrepreneur from the Buffalo Narrows area of Northern Saskatchewan.

I’m raising funds to complete one year-round rental cabin—the next step toward building an Indigenous-owned accommodation business that brings together comfortable stays, northern hospitality, and opportunities to connect with Indigenous culture.

I already own the commercial property, and I will be doing the building. Your support will help turn that foundation into a completed cabin ready to welcome guests.

What Your Support Will Build

Our planned cabin will sleep four to six people and include:

- A kitchen for preparing meals. - A private bathroom. - Comfortable sleeping and living spaces. - Heating and insulation for year-round use. - Furniture, appliances, and the essentials needed to welcome guests.

Our estimated budget for one completed cabin is $110,000. We are proposing a campaign goal of $125,000 to also allow for payment processing, reward fulfilment, and a contingency for unexpected expenses. We will share a more detailed budget and construction updates as the project moves forward.

More Than a Place to Sleep

Northern Saskatchewan is home to beautiful lakes, strong communities, and living Indigenous cultures. I want this business to reflect the place and people it belongs to.

As we grow, my vision includes opportunities for local cultural hosts, artists, and knowledge holders to share experiences they choose to offer—from storytelling and arts to learning about the land. These activities will be developed respectfully, with permission and fair compensation for those involved.

Cultural programming is a future part of our vision. It is not a guaranteed inclusion in the cabin-stay rewards offered through this campaign.

For me, reconciliation includes practical opportunities for Indigenous people to build, own, and lead businesses. Supporting this project helps an Indigenous entrepreneur create something lasting while opening a welcoming space for visitors to learn and connect.

Starting With One Cabin

Our longer-term vision is to grow toward 10 to 12 cabins and four teepees. We already have one teepee close to being ready for operation.

This campaign funds one completed cabin. Each completed accommodation gives us a stronger foundation for the next stage, while keeping growth manageable.

Founding Supporter Rewards

Every contribution matters. You can contribute any amount without selecting a reward, or choose one of the packages below.

All amounts are in Canadian dollars.

Contribution equal Rewards.

$3,000 — Connect With the North. A four-night stay for up to six guests, plus your name on a permanent founding supporter plaque, with your permission. 15 Available

These stay packages include a contribution toward building the cabin. They are founding supporter rewards, rather than discounted accommodation offers.

The stay rewards are limited to 60 cabin nights in total, leaving room for regular bookings that will help sustain the business.

Cabin-Stay Reward Terms

- Stays become available once the cabin is completed and legally ready to welcome guests. - Stay rewards are valid for 24 months from the date we notify supporters that bookings are open. - Reservations are subject to availability. Statutory holiday weekends are excluded. - Each package covers one cabin for up to six guests. Standard accommodation and cleaning charges are included. - Travel, meals, transportation, and cultural activities are not included. - Rewards may be gifted to another person by arranging this with us before booking. - We will publish an expected opening date before launching and communicate any changes promptly.

Accountability and Construction Updates

Supporters will receive updates showing construction progress, photographs, significant milestones, and any material changes to the budget or schedule.

Construction involves risks, including weather, material availability, approvals, and unexpected costs. We will communicate openly about delays and their effect on reward delivery.

We intend to use all-or-nothing funding: contributions will only be collected if the campaign reaches its goal. If the campaign succeeds but we later cannot complete the cabin or deliver a reward, we will explain the circumstances and available remedies to affected supporters. We cannot promise an unconditional refund after funds have been spent on construction.

Contributions support this privately owned business. They do not purchase ownership, profit sharing, or a financial return.

Help Us Build the First Cabin

I’m bringing my property, construction experience, and hands-on work to this project. I’m asking supporters to help provide the funding needed to finish it.

Whether you contribute $25, select a founding supporter stay, or share this campaign with someone who believes in Indigenous entrepreneurship, you are helping move this vision forward.

Thank you for helping us build a place where northern hospitality, Indigenous ownership, and connection to the land can grow together.
